Landscapes in watercolor can be painted delicately or boldly. All the natural elements, like distant rolling hills, soft horizons, or bright light contrasts to name a few, give much variety to explore.
Transient weather patterns can also excitingly transform the land and sky in beautifully abstract ways. This course is divided into one technical exploration day, and 3 variable project days, where we will talk about moving pigment with a variety of tools such as gestural brush marks, folded paper edges, and even our fingers! With additional focus on the importance of what to paint first and how, as well as proper timing in our layers and strokes that make the biggest impact in transforming the atmosphere of the land. Familiar with J.M.W. Turner? We will draw inspiration from a few of his images as excellent examples of atmospheric study. It can be quite magical. This open and interactive course will spotlight my palette, work surface, and reference in real time, so you can directly see how I mix and apply paint. Questions are encouraged at any time. At the start of each day, special short demonstrations from any inquiries will be addressed, and then intermittently to describe the project process from start to finish.Jason is a contemporary realist painter with many years' experience in watercolor.
